Maricopa County Board of Supervisors withheld an item from its Wednesday agenda to accept $1.6 million in immigration funding from the state that would help pay for Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s immigration enforcement efforts.

The board will consider the matter at a future meeting.

The Supervisors decided not to hear the item Wednesday amid concerns over financial accountability within the Sheriff’s Office.

It is unclear how the Supervisors would have voted on the item, but it is not the first time the Legislative-approved immigration funds have become a sticking point between board members and Arpaio.

Last year, supervisors initially blocked the funding from going to Arpaio’s office. That decision came one month after the Justice Department announced that the Sheriff’s Office was the subject of a civil-rights investigation into allegations that deputies discriminate.

One month later the Supervisors changed their minds and approved the funding with a 3-1 vote.

In 2008, former Gov. Janet Napolitano stripped Arpaio of the $1.6 million and redirected it to a fugitive task force. Republican legislative leadership gave the money back to Arpaio in a budget package in early 2009.

Wow, Sheriff Arpaio is getting investigated for civil rights issues?  And he is still the lead sheriff against illegal immigrants in Arizona?

Somebody get him out of there!  I’ve recently posted an article about how Sheriff Joe is being sued by a number of different people claiming that he “ruined” their political careers by convening and organizing attacks against them while they were at a vulnerable time in their careers.  He spreads lies and hate so that he can gain politically the upper-hand.

What I think is rediculous are his tent cities.  He makes captured people stay in these nasty, surrounded in desert, not up to standards shitholes.  Also, he makes the inmates wear pink underwear… this guy is just freaking nuts.

Check below for a ton more information about this asshole.

San Francisco, California (CNN) — Both proponents and opponents agree that the legal battle surrounding same-sex marriage in California is far from over.

A federal judge on Wednesday ruled the state’s Proposition 8, a voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage, is unconstitutional. However, Chief U.S District Judge Vaughn Walker in San Francisco granted a temporary stay, which stops his decision from taking immediate effect.

“Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples,” Walker, who was appointed to the federal bench by former President Ronald Reagan, wrote in his opinion.

Supporters of Proposition 8 argued, prior to Walker’s ruling, that same-sex marriages would be performed soon after his decision and could be complicated by rulings and appeals farther down the legal road.

Thank you for visiting my blog.  Yesterday, I was able to attend the SF Prop 8 Reversal Rally at San Francisco City Hall.

Unfortunately, due to my work schedule, I was not able to partake in the actual march that happened from Castro street to City Hall.  When I arrived at City Hall with my roommate Dominic, there was a medium-large size crowd standing outside of City Hall in celebration (please see my videos and pictures below).  Everyone there seemed so impressed and happy that something had finally gone our way.  I felt proud to live in this awesome city of San Francisco during these times.

“Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples”  WOW!  What a statement.. something that I’ve been telling everyone and anyone who will listen.  This has nothing to do with any of the 7,000,000 plus people who feel that it is right to put their views on other people, WHEN WE ARE JUST LOOKING FOR PROTECTION AND EQUALIZATION UNDER THE LAW, just like everyone else.  Well, I hope that this is an indication that we will not back down, not from this… don’t hate, GET RID OF PROP 8!  (Yes, I just came up with that one by myself!)

Peaceout Everyone, I enjoy reading your comments!

Good Ole

Target, practically everyone’s favorite discount retail store, is headquartered in Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes. But along with precious bodies of water, Minnesota is home to some pretty rabid anti-gay politicians and groups. Among them include Tom Emmer. And Target, it seems, is apparently filling  his campaign coffers with nearly $150,000.

Follow the money. At least, that’s the message delivered by an article at sfist.com by Matt Baume, who tracks $150,000 from Target’s coffers, through a political action committee (PAC) known as Minnesota Forward, all the way to Tom Emmer, who himself supports a Christian rock band in Minnesota that travels around the state saying that it’s moral and righteous for religious people to kill gays and lesbians.

For those into algebra, it looks a little like this: Target + Minnesota Forward + Tom Emmer = Support for a rather dangerous and radical political philosophy that diminishes LGBT people to pests that should be murdered. And Target is cool with this?

Send the company a message right now, urging them to explain why their money is being used to fund a politics that not only serves to prevent LGBT equality, but breeds homophobia, transphobia and hatred.

WOW!

What I find funny about this, is that I actually worked at Target for three years.  Also, I just went shopping last night at Target.

While I worked at Target, I realized that Target was a company that actually put money into the community.  Through my job, I was able to work with employees on volunteer projects, fundraise for local non-profits, and work with organizations in and around the San Francisco Bay Area.

NOW, as I read this information, it really opens my mind to the harsh reality that I was obliviously blinded because I worked there.  Now Now, I know what you’re saying: “But Target is a really good company!”  Well honey, not if they give their money to limit people rights and support some po-dunk red neck who runs around with a freaking band denouncing gays.  That is so 1990’s Target… at least put money into something that ‘matters’… like maybe your employees pockets : – )

I’ll most likely continue to shop at Target… but will be following their contributions a little more closely now.
