Anne Rice leaves Christianity – The Marquee Blog – CNN.com Blogs.

Legendary author Anne Rice has announced that she’s quitting Christianity.

The “Interview with a Vampire” author, who wrote a book about her spirituality titled “Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession” in 2008, said Wednesday that she refuses to be “anti-gay,” “anti-feminist,” “anti-science” and “anti-Democrat.”

Rice wrote, “For those who care, and I understand if you don’t: Today I quit being a Christian … It’s simply impossible for me to ‘belong’ to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten years, I’ve tried. I’ve failed. I’m an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else.”

As an avid Anne Rice fan, I have to say that I am not impressed or shocked to see this happen.  I followed  Anne Rice from the dark fantasies that starred the worlds use-to-be old favorite vampire, Lestat, to her weirder, more philisophical Christian works.  All the same, I loved the books and was pleased by her change in genre, but found myself missing her old style, everything she used to have going on.

I am a HUGE fan off all of these books, and WAS pretty shocked when she suddenly switched to Christianity.  Now, to know that she is just like everyone else, just like each of us, I feel like I can relate to her even more.

Please, Anne, do not fret about leaving the mainstream ‘Christian-Faith.’  We do much better finding faith in living and pleasing others when we can’t please ourselves anymore.  Welcome.
